BIOGRAPHY

Teresa Castaneda found dance at the age of six at Neisha’s Dance and Music Academy from being intrigued by her older sisters dancing growing up. While continuing her studies at NDMA, she joined the non profit junior ballet company Chula Vista Ballet in 2014 under the direction of Taeko Nishino. Nishino’s artistic direction allowed her to perform in productions such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, La Bayadere, and Le Corsaire. Teresa continued to develop her ballet training with Nishino and other well renowned teachers such as Ryosuke Ogura and Mariko Domyo. In 2018, she competed in the US Prix de Ballet competition and placed 3rd in the soloist category which then allowed her to compete in Japan Grand Prix International Ballet Competition as a finalist the following year in 2019. She became enthusiastic about broadening her ideas about dance which led her to join Boston Conservatory at Berklee in fall 2019. Their Contemporary BFA program has allowed Teresa to explore modern technique and contemporary with professors such as Kurt Douglas and Ruka Hatua-Saar White while building on her balletic foundation under Adriana Suarez and Dean Vollick. While continuing to earn her degree at the Conservatory, she has performed works by Margot Gelber, T. Lang, and Joy Davis.
